Singer David Adeleke, professionally known as Davido, is facing a ₦1 billion lawsuit threat from a lawyer representing Sophia Momodu in the ongoing custody dispute over their daughter, Imade Adeleke.

Mrs Ebelechukwu Egeonu Enedah, a partner at Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors, has issued a pre-action notice accusing the singer of harassment, threats to life, cyberbullying, and defamation. The notice states that legal proceedings will begin if Davido fails to comply with a series of demands within seven days.

The dispute stems from events said to have taken place on 12 February 2026 during a hearing at the High Court of Lagos State in Suit No: LD/1587PMC/2024, filed by Davido against Momodu.

According to the letter signed by Decency Nkume, Associate, and Naamdi Oragwe, Partner, the singer allegedly conducted himself in an aggressive and verbally abusive manner towards Mrs Enedah during cross-examination. The notice further claims that the court directed him to apologise in open court, but that he refused to do so.

The situation, the letter alleges, escalated after the court session. On 13 February 2026, posts featuring the lawyer’s photograph were said to have been shared online, exposing her identity to a wide audience. The notice claims that she subsequently received abusive messages, threatening phone calls and explicit threats to her safety and that of her family.

Davido is also accused of publishing posts on his verified Instagram and X accounts in which he directly tagged the lawyer and made statements described in the notice as defamatory and damaging to her professional reputation.

One of the posts quoted in the letter reads: “YOU ARE THE WORST LAWYER EVER I BEAT YOU IN COURT!”

The pre-action notice describes the publication as a deliberate and targeted attack, alleging that it mobilised the singer’s large fan base and intensified harassment directed at the lawyer.

It also states that Davido publicly identified and attacked individuals he believed to be related to Mrs Enedah, including gospel singer Tosin Bee, who was mistakenly assumed to be her son. The letter claims that this action exposed innocent persons to ridicule and online hostility.

Mrs Enedah, who has over 20 years’ post-call experience, said the alleged actions caused severe damage to her professional reputation, emotional distress and fear for her safety. The notice argues that legal practitioners are entitled to carry out their duties without intimidation or public harassment, particularly in cases involving the custody and welfare of a minor.

As part of the demands, the lawyer is asking Davido to immediately cease all commentary relating to her and the case while the matter remains before the court. She is also seeking a clear public apology and retraction across his verified social media platforms, as well as publication of a formal apology in at least two widely circulated national newspapers.

In addition, she is demanding ₦1 billion in compensation for alleged reputational damage and distress.

The legal action marks a fresh escalation in the custody dispute between Davido and Momodu over their daughter, Imade Adeleke, born on 14 May 2015. The singer had earlier filed a suit seeking joint custody and unrestricted access. Although he recently announced on social media that he had decided to withdraw the case.
