Nigerian singer, Anthony Ebuka Victor, popularly known as Victony, has said he had never performed on stage without drinking alcohol.
He made the disclosure on the Behind The Prestige podcast, which went viral on Friday, while explaining his current decision to prioritise health and cut off old habits.
According to the Soweto crooner, he has stopped smoking and is also gradually staying off alcohol to perform with a clear mind.
He described the decision as one of his biggest challenges so far.
“I haven’t smoked in a while. I’m trying to stay off alcohol as well. I’m trying to do this tour sober, and it’s a big challenge,” he said.
“For the longest, I have never been on stage without drinking but I’m trying to see my fans with my eyes, connect with them truly.”
Victony first grabbed attention after teaming up with Mayorkun on the hit track “Holy Father”.
His career took a more personal turn after he survived a car crash in April 2021 that claimed one life and left others injured.
In a previous interview, he described the accident as a “blessing in disguise,” saying the near-death experience changed the way he sees life.
