Nigerian Afro-fusion artist May Jay has released his new single, “Need My Love,” a slow-burning Afro-soul record that explores desire, emotional distance and the undefined tension of modern romance.

Released on April 17, the track is a priority single distributed through UnitedMasters and serves as the prelude to his forthcoming EP.

Built on a smooth, low-tempo Afrobeats rhythm and layered with sensual melodies, “Need My Love” finds May Jay delivering a captivating story of affection, restraint and late-night intimacy. The record leans into a moody, emotionally charged atmosphere where passion takes centre stage, but vulnerability remains carefully guarded. With its hypnotic groove and calm Afro-soul feel, the track is crafted for playlists centred around Afro R&B, late-night rhythm, bedroom vibes and emerging Afro-pop voices.

Born Vincent Nnamdi Adolphus, May Jay is an Imo State indigene. He completed his primary education at Maybloom Primary School, attended Benviatto High School, and later studied Hotel Catering and Management at Rivers State University. He describes himself as friendly, easy-going and no-nonsense.

May Jay gained his musical footing in the 2000s, around the same period that one of his biggest influences, Chris Brown, began shaping global pop and R&B culture. He started visiting the studio in 2009 and has since built his sound around a fusion of Afropop, Afro-soul and contemporary Afrobeat, drawing inspiration from artists such as Ty Dolla $ign and Jamaican dancehall singer Kranium. His music blends Afrocentric rhythms with elements of Jamaican and global pop textures, creating a sound designed for both local and international audiences.

Over the years, May Jay has also worked with notable names including Magnito, Minz and Boybreed, further expanding his creative range. As an independent artist, he believes in steady growth, patience and the process of building a lasting career rather than chasing short-term wins. With “Need My Love,” May Jay signals a new phase in his artistry, one defined by refined emotion, stronger sonic identity and a clearer path toward his next body of work.
