Known for his popular single Jealous, which is making hit through out country, Afro-pop singer, Adedamola Adefolahan popularly known as Fireboy DML, no doubt is one of the fast-rising talents in the Nigerian music industry.

The YBNL Nation wonder boy had on the final episode of MTV Base Behind The Story, opened up on his journey from being an unknown singer to being one of the most talked-about music acts in Nigeria.

The Laughter, Tears and Goosebumps singer, spoke about his relatively normal childhood in Abeokuta before discovering music as his life’s purpose in his second year at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

He stated that his parents expected that he would venture into academia, so it’s not surprising that his dad expressed disappointment in his career choice after his graduation from university. But with his success, his parents have gotten over their disappointment, and have become his biggest fans.

In the interview, the What If I Say and King crooner narrated the journey to developing his unique sound, a fresh medley of afro-pop and R&B that gives off some alternate vibes at the same time.

He also, shed light on the story behind Jealous, one of the major hits on his Laughter, Tears, and Goosebumps album. According to him, the song was inspired by an unhealthy relationship he had just gotten out of.
While the singer also shed light on the struggles he faced as an ‘underground artiste’ trying to get his music the attention it deserved, he reminisced on how he got signed to the YBNL label through a phone call from the CEO, Olamide Adedeji, popularly referred to as Baddo in the music industry.

When by the show host, Sammy Walsh, what he has in sleeves, Fireboy hinted that he would go on tours, as well as work on his next music project, following the release of his debut studio album, Laughter, Tears, and Goosebumps, on November 29, 2019. Asked what video his fans should be expecting next, the singer simply responded, “wait and see”.

Commenting on how upcoming artistes can improve their music so that they can attract the right people, Fireboy shared some insights from his experience.
