New book chronicles Sunny Ade’s crowning as King of Music
A new book detailing the events surrounding renowned juju musician, King Sunny Ade’s (KSA) victory in a 1977 musical competition is set to launch in Ibadan, Oyo State, nearly 47 years after he was crowned the King of Music by the late Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Adeyemi III.
The specific venue and date for the launch have yet to be announced.
The competition, organised by the late Olutade Makinde, then editor of The Entertainer—a publication under the defunct Sketch Publishing Newspaper Limited—catapulted KSA to fame, establishing him as King Sunny Ade, a name now recognized worldwide.
The book is authored by Tade Makinde II, the son of the late journalist and a well-known engineer in Ibadan, who has a passion for biopics.
He will serve as the chairman for the event.
Princess Aderonke Adedoja, chairperson of the Oyo State chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Traders (NANTs), is confirmed as a special guest for the launch.
Makinde II previously retired from the Nigerian Tribune, where he worked on the entertainment and features desks.
