Nigerian singers Rema, Tems, Wizkid, and Asake have been nominated in the Favourite Afrobeats Artiste category at the 2025 American Music Awards.
The award ceremony is scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 26, 2025, in Las Vegas, United States.
According to the organisers, South African Grammy winner, Tyla, also earned a spot in the category, which was first introduced in 2022.
Wizkid won the inaugural award that year, marking a significant milestone for the Afrobeats genre on the global stage.
This year’s edition will feature three new categories: Song of the Year, Album of the Year, and Social Song of the Year.
American singer and actress Jennifer Lopez will host the event.
US rapper Kendrick Lamar tops this year’s nominations with 10 nods, including Artist of the Year, Album of the Year and Song of the Year.
He also secured three out of five nominations i the Favourite Hip-Hop Song category.
Other top nominees include Post Malone with eight, while Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan, and Shaboozey received seven nominations each. Bruno Mars, SZA, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, and others follow closely behind.
