While Making “Boy Alone” I Considered Killing Myself – Omah Lay
Omah Lay, a renowned stage name for Nigerian artist Stanley Omah, has opened up about his battle with depression while working on his self-titled first album.
The Infinity singer confessed that, prior to the release of the aforementioned album in June, he was experiencing emotional difficulties and had considered suicide in a series of tweets.
In September 2021, Omah Lay and his ex-girlfriend Gloria made their Instagram accounts public. Soon after, the couple split up due to rumors that she had cheated.
In his tweets, Omah confessed that his ex-girlfriend gave him “breakfast,” which is slang for sadness, and nearly drove him insane.
I want to pour my heart out on this app, he wrote, “Boy Alone” might be the last song in which you hear me sob. When I recorded G, I was hopelessly depressed, insecure, terrified, and on the verge of losing my mind. I was going to actually commit suicide.
“People I used to look up to stopped showing me love, I looked people in the eye and saw doubt, disrespect and hate. I lost myself, maybe I was just overthinking, I don’t know.
“My babe served me ‘breakfast’ at midnight. I wanted to go crazy.”
The musician claimed that after completing the album’s production and listening to it, his confidence returned and he realized that he is one of Africa’s top performers.
He also wrote that he felt lost until he finished the recording 9f “Boy Alone”.
“I listened to myself and realized I’m one of the hardest sh*ttt African music has ever seen!!”
