It should be recalled that in Lagos alone, over 13,000 corp members had been mobilised for the elections. The Lagos Coordinator, Mohammed Momoh, had said during an interview on the 6th of February that the NYSC had improved security to ensure that the corp members are protected.

“We don’t expect anything else from this election; we have picked valuable lessons from our participation from 2011 till date and we have been putting them to use. That is why the elections are getting better and the security of corps members is enhanced.”

NYSC INEC

Nine days after stating this, corp members have spoken up on social media, Twitter, to lament the negligence of the corp members:

@Xymbiz @Xymbiz- They wanted cheap labour. There is no where in the NYSC bye – law that makes it compulsory for corpers to be part of the election. Point me to it if you can. That being said. BE WISE. INEC doesn’t care about you. NYSC doesn’t care about you. Nigeria doesn’t care about you.

adejumobi oluwafemi- Stop treating us like we are worthless @inec. This is total rubbish, if u guys aren’t ready, tell us.. You recruited and post us but left us outside here without security and not even one of your officials is here with us. We av families too… @nysc #ebonyicorper #NigeraDecides

Kẹ́mi @kemifalodun- Oh god I’ve suffered this night. We’re all just sitting out here, no accommodation, we haven’t even seen any INEC official. No sleep. And we’re supposed to function all through tomorrow. Remind again why I decided to participate in this NYSC/INEC kini

Foza™ @fozadoza- I am going back to bed. If NBA doesn’t mobilize lawyers to sue INEC for mass disenfranchisement, damages for election postponement, NYSC for unbearable conditions, then i an attending all the conferences to attack the whole NBA this year.

OurFavOnlineDoctor @DrOlufunmilayo- I feel huge sympathy for the NYSC members. Imagine serving your country and helping as election officials only to be treated like a lesser human not even deserving of a decent accommodation while you are trying to contribute your little quota to national development. Saddening.

However, some think otherwise:

Ayuba Mojoyinoluwa- Don’t blame NYSC for the mess INEC is making you go through. You signed up for it as a result of your greed and not patriotism.
