Nigerian Government Congratulates Burna Boy And Wizkid Over Grammy Awards

In a press release posted on Twitter, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, on behalf of the Nigerian government, has sent his congratulatory message to Burna Boy and Wizkid over their wins at the just concluded Grammys.

In the post, he wrote:

FG Congratulates Burna Boy, Whizkid Over Grammy Awards. The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has congratulated music stars Burna Boy and Wizkid over their Grammy Award victories.

In a statement issued in Lagos on Monday, the Minister described the much-deserved awards as fitting rewards for the persistent hard work of the duo. He said the awards also represented a global endorsement for the Afrobeat genre of music that has propelled Nigeria’s increasing dominance of the music world.

Alhaji Mohammed expressed the hope that the clinching of the prestigious awards by the two music stars would not only spur them to greater heights, but would also serve as a source of inspiration for others.

The song “Brown Skin Girl” which Beyonce featured Wizkid in won the award for Best Music Video in the 63rd annual Grammy Awards. This will mark the first Grammy for Wizkid.

Also, Burna Boy won his first Grammy Award with his Album “Twice as Tall” which was nominated alongside four others including Malian band Tinariwen and US band Antibalas has just won the Best Global Music Album.

These wins have generated lots of celebration on social media with their fans posting their congratulatory messages to the artistes.

Celebrating the win, Burna boy while giving his acceptance speech said:

This is a big win for my generations all over the world. To every African out there, no matter where you are, no matter what you plan to do, you can achieve it, no matter where you’re from because you are a king. Look at me now! Grammy Award winning Burna Boy. Thank you to everyone!!
