OnlyFans To Ban Sexually Explicit Content From October
OnlyFans, the subscription platform widely popular for explicit photos and videos, is banning pornography starting October 1.
The UK-based company on Thursday announced that it is making the move “to comply with the requests of our banking partners and payout providers.”
Effective Oct. 1, 2021, “OnlyFans will prohibit the posting of any content containing sexually explicit conduct,” the company said in a statement.
“In order to ensure the long-term sustainability of the platform, and to continue to host an inclusive community of creators and fans, we must evolve our content guidelines.”
OnlyFans markets itself as a place where photographers, musicians, make-up artists, actors and other creators can earn part or even full-time incomes.
However, it is best known as a haven for sex workers and influencers wanting to promote and sell access to adult content.
According to OnlyFans, creators will continue to be allowed to post content containing nudity “as long as it is consistent with our Acceptable Use Policy.” The site’s terms currently allow nudity except in the case of content featuring public nudity recorded in or broadcast from a jurisdiction where public nudity is illegal.
“We will be sharing more details in the coming days, and we will actively support and guide our creators through this change in content guidelines,” the company said. “OnlyFans remains committed to the highest levels of safety and content moderation of any social platform. All creators are verified prior to being able to upload any content to OnlyFans, and all uploaded content is checked by automated systems and human moderators.”
OnlyFans has more than 130 million users, over 2 million creators who have earned over $5 billion since its inception in 2016, but is struggling to raise money from outside investors, according to an Axios report.
It is a subscription-based site that allows creators to earn a living by sharing original videos on the platform.
Fans pay creators for access to their content via a monthly subscription, which can range from $4.99 to $49.99. OnlyFans takes a 20 percent cut of all payments.
