Young, Famous & African has taken the trend tables by storm this weekend.

This reality show is a testimony to true love surviving against all odds; this reality show follows a crew of famed, affluent stars as they bare it all in this unscripted series.

Spilling all the tea, we follow these celebrities as they make connections, form new friendships and rivalries, all the while living in the City of Gold, Johannesburg, South Africa.

Starring Nigeria’s own Annie Macaulay-Idibia and Swanky Jerry, we also witness a star appearance from 2Baba himself. The cast list also includes Tanzaian’s own Diamond Platnumz, South Africa’s Khanyi Mbau, Naked DJ, Nadia Nakai, Andile Ncube and Uganda’s Zari Hassan (ZariTheBossLady).

Here are our top moments from Netflix’s Young, Famous & African:

  • Annie Bares It All

In this glitzy reality series, African Queen Annie Macaulay-Idibia spilt all the tea on her marriage to music star 2Baba. Annie is rightfully the highlight of the season, taking us on a trip down memory lane from them meeting each other to them having kids and being married for over a decade.

Giving us some serious tea, Annie breaks down as she recollects how it felt meeting Innocent Idibia first but having to deal with him having children by other women during the course of their relationship.

While her story generated emotions, mixed reactions have trailed her revelation that her first child is 2Baba’s 5th child despite meeting him before any of his other baby mama’s.

Let’s not forget her drama with Zari. Zari was ready to give it back HOT HOT! And Annie was definitely not backing down.

  • A Twist On African Parenting

Diamond Platnumz and Khanyi Mbau showed us that African parenting is gradually evolving. Worthy of note is the wonderful co-parenting between Diamond Platnumz and his Ugandan baby mama, Socialite Zari Hassan. In this series, we watched the two as they effectively maintained a cordial relationship as co-parents despite not having romantic relationships proving that co-parenting is definitely not lost in this side of the world.

Another modern twist to African parenting that caught our eyes is the independence Khanyi Mbau’s given to her 15-year-old daughter by letting her live in a separate apartment, fully furnished with essentials within the same building. Giving her independence and preparing her for the world ahead, Khanyi’s parenting has received applause from many viewers of the show.

However, Annie didn’t seem to agree, and their quarrel was another highlight of the season. While some viewers have described Annie’s take on Khanyi’s parenting as hypocritical and judgmental, they pointed out that Annie had started dating 2Baba at 15 herself, which brings to question the parenting skills of her own parents.

On the other hand, Khanyi’s retort to Annie that she had her daughter next door while Annie’s kids were left back in Nigeria as she filmed the show went viral.

Whatever the verdict is, we can agree that Africa parenting has come a long way, and this change is for the better.

  • Relationship Drama

We saw more than we would like of the double standard that exist when it comes to relationships. Diamond Platnumz and ZariTheBossLady clearly stated that they had no sexual relationships and were only co-parents. So, Zari and the rest of the crew were fine with Diamond moving on to Nadia; however, the others seemed to draw the line at Andile and Zari making moves at each other.

For us, our conclusion is to give the energy to Peter and Paul.

  • Swanky’s Dressing

Honourable mention, Swanky went all out on the show. His extravagant outfits featured intricate designs and accessorising, some of which we could have done without seeing. We can all agree that in every scene he appeared in, Swanky caught our eyes with his outfit choices.

  •  The Vow Renewal

Probably the highlight of the season, we all watched in awe as lovebirds Annie Macaulay-Idibia renewed their vows. The private intimate ceremony was attended by casts of the show, their kids and the love birds as they pledged to continue to love each other.

Our final verdict: Young, Famous & African is definitely a must-see.
