The U.S. Coast Guard announced today that it has recovered “presumed human remains” from the wreckage of the Titan submersible. The submersible imploded on June 18 while on a voyage to the wreck of the Titanic, killing all five people on board.

The remains were recovered by a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) that was searching the ocean floor about 700 kilometers south of Newfoundland, Canada. The ROV was deployed from the Horizon Arctic, a Canadian-flagged ship that had helped search for the Titan.

The remains will be transported to the United States for further analysis. The Coast Guard said that it is working with the families of the victims to identify the remains.

The Coast Guard is still investigating the cause of the Titan’s implosion. However, officials have said that they believe it was caused by a rapid decompression of the sub’s cabin.

The Titan was a privately owned submersible that was designed to carry up to six passengers. It was equipped with a variety of safety features, including a redundant life support system and an escape hatch.

The implosion of the Titan is a reminder of the dangers of underwater exploration. The Coast Guard said that it is grateful for the “coordinated international and inter-agency support” that helped recover the Titan’s wreckage and the presumed human remains.

The investigation into the cause of the Titan’s implosion is ongoing. The Coast Guard said that it will provide updates as they become available.
