Rapper Huey, who was popular for his 2006 hit Pop, Lock & Drop It, has died of a gunshot wound in a shooting according to a report by The Mirror.

Huey was killed in a shooting that happened in his native place of St. Louis, in Missouri where shots were fired just before 11 pm on Thursday.

He was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival to the hospital, police said. There has been no arrest in connection with the shooting and a motive has not been determined, police said. In their words:

Detectives believe as many as ten other individuals were present in and around the crime scene during the occurrence of this incident. Investigators strongly encourage those that are potential witnesses to please contact them.

Another victim was injured in the shooting. The unidentified person was reported to have sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Sadly, Huey had big plans to film his music video for his latest single over the weekend. Tributes from fans all over have been flooding in for the rapper on social media.

Huey’s hit “Pop, Lock & Drop It” was released in 2007 and spent 23 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 6.

Huey’s real name is Lawrence Franks. He was an American rapper from St. Louis, Missouri. Originally signed to Jive Records, and was best known for his 2006 debut single, “Pop, Lock & Drop It”.

Huey’s second album, Redemption, was released on September 14, 2010, after many delays. The first official single from the album was “Smile and Wave”, features Dorrough and was released on June 15, 2010.

He is survived by his 13-year-old daughter.
