Nollywood actor, Ray Emodi, has announced that he has quit acting in films.
Emodi made this known in a video he shared on Instagram on Tuesday, saying, “I’ve stopped acting films. I quit.”
He said he decided to speak up because he often gets questioned by fans about his screen absence.
“I get this question a lot. People in comments, people that I meet, they ask me: ‘Your films, your films,’” he said.
Emodi said he put in years of work in the industry and recalled filming in risky environments.
“I shot a film in a town that I won’t mention, but we were literally hearing gunshots,” he said, adding that there was “a situation where something was going on in a town next to our town in West Michigan.”
He described his decision as one that has “come with a lot of consequences,” noting that his family does not support it because of “strict rules and reputation.”
“My family doesn’t support this… I respect that decision, and I won’t do anything that would bring any stain to the name,” he said.
The actor also addressed public perception about props used in music-related acting scenes.
“You don’t see me with backloads. The backy is not full of Loud. It’s a prop. I’m acting in the music,” he said.
Emodi said while acting brought him both tough and memorable moments, he had to stop accepting roles.
“I’ve had some of the best experiences of my life on sets… it’s not easy to say no when they call your phone to come back on set, but I had to stop saying yes,” he said.
He added that he is shifting his focus to music, saying, “I love music, man. I’ve always loved music, and I make good music.”
Promising fans he is not abandoning them, Emodi said, “I love every single Nollywood fan… I’m not leaving you. I’m just going to make music for the dance floor.”
He added that he wants his sound to fit party moments, “for women to whine their waist and for men to be next to women whining their waist,” as well as “people that are kn*cking.”
