Tech billionaire Elon Musk and his girlfriend, singer Grimes welcomed their first child together on Tuesday. The SpaceX and Tesla CEO shared a photo of the newborn, a baby boy on his twitter page. When people started asking about the child’s name, Musk informed his 33.7 million followers on Twitter that his name would be ‘X Æ A-12’.

However, the choice of name for the child – X Æ A-12 – has left many puzzled especially as many wonder how it is to be pronounced.
X Æ A-12’s mother, Grimes has offered an explation for the name. X is the “the unknown variable”, Æ is her “elven spelling of Ai”, A-12 is the “precursor to SR-17”. Grimes is probably talking about the SR-71, the couple’s favourite aircraft. A is for Archangel, Grimes favourite song.
•X, the unknown variable ⚔️
•Æ, my elven spelling of Ai (love &/or Artificial intelligence)
•A-12 = precursor to SR-17 (our favorite aircraft). No weapons, no defenses, just speed. Great in battle, but non-violent 🤍

Grimes’ explanation does little to social media users who have come up with memes, likely meaning or pronunciation of the name.
