Amazon has enlisted the voice of American actor legend Samuel L. Jackson for its cloud-based digital assistant, Alexa.

Users of Alexa-enabled devices will now be able to interact with an AI version of the Hollywood star developed using the company’s neural text-to-speech technology.

Jackson’s voice will be the first celebrity voice option for Alexa. Amazon promises to add more celebrity guest voices in 2020.

Jackson is known for his liberal use of “colourful words”. According to Amazon’s description of Jackson’s “voice pack”, users can choose whether they would like the Hollywood icon to use clean or explicit language. It adds that Jackson will be able to tell jokes, play music and report on weather conditions, though he is unable to assist with shopping, lists, reminders or skills.

Jackson’s voice feature can be purchased on Amazon now at an introductory price of ₦356.89 ($0.99).

Amazon also introduced other features and updates – a multilingual mode for bilingual speakers, new privacy options such as auto-deletion of voice recordings, and new commands that force the program to reveal the data it has collected.

Jackson is ranked as the highest all-time box office star with over $6.9 billion total US box office gross, an average of $87.5 million per film. He is best known for his roles in blockbusters such as Django Unchained (2012), A Time To Kill (1996), Pulp Fiction (1994), The Hateful Eight (2015) and Unbreakable (2000).
