Sapa Memories: Laycon Reveals He Used ‘Toilet Water To Soak Garri’
Nigerian rapper and Big Brother Naija winner Laycon recently shared how terribly broke he once was before fame.
Describing the period as one of his “lowest lows,” the rapper and reality TV star told thousands of his followers that he was so broke in 2013 and had to drink garri without sugar.
But that is not the saddest part. Perhaps, he was broke so much he could not afford to even buy a sachet to “soak” the garri.
The ‘Fierce’ crooner had to use water flowing from a tap in his hostel toilet to drink the garri.
Laycon tweeted: “One of my lowest lows was using Shodeinde Hostel toilet water to soak garri in 2013. I was alone in my wing that weekend, and I was starving. I wasn’t hungry, oh—I was starving. So, I soaked garri with no sugar and used toilet tap water to drink it… as I dey soak the garri, water dey commot for my eyes.”
Born Olamilekan Massoud Al-Khalifah Agbeleshebioba, Laycon found fame after winning the Big Brother Naija reality show in 2020.
His songs such as ‘Fierce,’ ‘Verify’ and ‘Wagwan’ enjoyed commercial success.
