Two students in South Africa said they have invented bricks using human waste-urine. The students Vukheta Mukhari and Suzanne Lambert say the bricks made is environmentally friendly.

The bricks were made from a combination of urine gotten from men’s toilets, sand and bacteria using a process that enables the bricks to cake naturally at room temperature.

According to them, an enzyme in the mixture of urine, sand and bacteria breaks down the urine to produce calcium carbonate – a major element in limestone-which makes it possible for the other materials mould together.

Usually, ordinary bricks are required to be baked in high-temperature kilns which produce high quantities of carbon dioxide.
