Got natural hair? Searching for a simple way to tame your kinky or curly hair into larger, softer waves? One hairstyle offers the perfect solution to hair styling dilemmas. Bantu knots or zulu knots are actually great for anybody and they can help smooth out and define curlier tresses.

Here’s how to create this style:

Steps

    1. Wash, condition and detangle your hair. Make sure your scalp is washed properly.
    2. Part damp hair into sections using a comb. Use the end of a rattail comb for best results and divide hair into small, medium, or large sections, depending on the length of your hair and the ultimate style you want. Use smaller sections for shorter hair—as tiny as ½-inch wide or smaller, for the shortest locks—and larger ones for longer hair, up to 3 or 4 inches across. If you intend to take down your knots for a Bantu knot-out later, consider the texture you want to achieve
    3. Using gel, setting lotion or pomade control screw hair into a taut rope.
    4. Coil the twisted rope around itself and make sure it is secure.
    5. Repeat this step until whole hair is done.
    6. For Bantu knot outs, d this process in reverse.
