Crochet braids is a type of hair extension which involves corn rowing your natural hair by using a crochet hook to attach strands of the hair extension to your hair. It is also called “latch hook braids”. Crochet braided hair style are so 1999. It is most common amongst those in the black community. People of African and Caribbean descent often have hair that is kinky and thick, and most braids mimic this look.

This style is so hot, popular and classic, it’s a way to wear a protective style by braiding your hair and latching textured hair into them. It can be considered a weave that just uses a different method for attaching the extensions to your natural hair. You can style the kinky hair in a variety of ways to make it more versatile and it looks just like your natural hair.

Is this a trend? Or is it here to stay? Questions I ask myself. Crochet is a firestorm and it is just getting started, and I am looking forward to the new and creative ways that ladies are going to wear them in the months and years to come.

To do a crochet braid you simply need a standard craft latch hook crochet needle. It seems that the type with the curved handles works the best for most people but the straight needles are also fine.

Crochet braids are well known for some reasons. Here are a couple:

How to Maintain Crochet Braided Hair

This style is quiet simple to maintain.

  • Deep condition your hair before the installation
  • Refrain from pulling the actual crochet as it is hooked unto the braids and can cause further damage, especially to your edges.
  • Moisturize with a spritz moisturizer
  • Oil scalp, as needed.
  • Utilize a satin/silk pillow/bonnet/scarf at night.
