Torrid’s Plus-Size Show Brings Diversity To Its NYFW Debut

The New York Fashion Week is normally known for its body inclusivity. Every year, we see the same figures walking down the runway; skinny models with the longest legs. But Torrid, this year, brought a show to NYFW that defied all of that. The brand celebrated diversity and inclusivity on the stage. This is not the first plus-sized show at NYFW, however. Other brands like Eden Miller of Cambria and Addition Elle have done similar shows at the fashion event.

For Spring Summer 2018, the plus sized brand’s collection was Bad Sandy from Grease meets Bad Dolores from Westworld. It featured laced-up leather, embellished jackets, collars popped like shark fins, lace, florals, ruffles, robes and long skirts.

The collection, designed with specifically plus-sized mass-market women in mind, was beautiful and safe. It balanced edgy leather corsets with floaty, fluid fabric that made some models look like they were levitating.

Larger sizes women are finally being welcomed and acknowledged as consumers of fashion, and we are here for that.
