Afrobeats singer Tiwa Savage has accepted a playful boxing challenge from fellow Nigerian singer Teniola Apata, popularly known as Teni. Teni issued the challenge in a video shared on social media, calling on the “Somebody’s Son” singer to face her in a boxing match.
In the video, Teni joked about the possibility of the two music stars entering the ring, while also discussing the kind of money that could make the proposed fight worthwhile.Addressing Tiwa, Teni said, “Mama, make we fight,” before joking about what would happen when they eventually faced each other.
She also proposed a potential purse of ₦1.5 billion for the fight and wondered whether such an amount would be enough to buy her a Bugatti. “If they pay us N1.5 billion, can I buy a Bugatti?” Teni asked.
She continued with her playful call-out, saying she would defeat Tiwa before singing “My Darling” for her.Teni also captioned the video: “MAMA!!! Make we fight @tiwasavage 3billion later I go apologise for outside the boxing ring.”
The challenge caught Tiwa’s attention, with the veteran singer responding directly in the comment section.Rather than turning down the challenge, Tiwa appeared to play along, replying simply: “Pick a date.”Her response immediately added to the excitement surrounding the exchange, with fans reacting to the possibility of the two singers settling their playful rivalry in a boxing ring.
The proposed bout comes at a time when celebrity boxing has continued to attract attention in Nigeria, with entertainers and public figures increasingly taking part in organised fights.Recent celebrity boxing events have included former Big Brother Naija winner Phyna facing actress Nkechi Blessing in Lagos as part of the Chaos in the Ring series.
However, there is currently no official confirmation that a Tiwa-Teni fight has been scheduled.Neither singer has announced an official fight date, venue, promoter, rules or confirmed purse for the proposed bout. Teni’s reference to ₦1.5 billion was made in the context of her social media challenge and has not been announced as an agreed fight fee.
For now, the exchange between the two singers remains a playful social media challenge, although Tiwa’s “Pick a date” response has left the door open for the idea to become more than banter.Should the proposed fight eventually materialise, it would bring together two of Nigeria’s most recognisable female Afrobeats stars in an unusual clash outside their usual music territory.
