Anyone who knows the iconic Cyprian Ekwensi will be familiar with his work, The Passport of Mallam Ilia. The book centres on the chronicles the journey of a fiery young warrior, Ilia who spent the rest of his life seeking vengeance for the death of his wife, Zarah, in the hands of Mallam Usman.
The story of love, vengeance and conquest set in ancient Northern Nigeria in the 19th century. With events primarily taking place in Kano.
The book has been made into an animation film by Magic Carpet Productions, a Nigerian Film Company. While readers of the book had only their imagination to put the book to life, this animation has used animated imagery to give a glimpse into the pre-colonial times and the period before insurgency in Northern Nigeria
