A Ghanaian man, Dauda Seidu Bayigo, better known as King Mansa Musa, has announced his plan to set a new Guinness World Record by swimming across the Atlantic Ocean, from Ghana to the United States.

Bayigo made the declaration in a now viral TikTok video poster, where he confirmed he would begin the daring attempt on June 6, 2025.

According to him, the goal is to complete the journey across approximately 10,011.55 kilometres of open ocean.
“I will begin my record-breaking attempt on June 6,” he said confidently, adding that he hopes to make history with the longest solo swimming marathon ever recorded.

In a follow-up clip, Bayigo posted footage of himself training in open water, surrounded by cheering supporters.
He also shared a map that outlines his intended route from the West African coast through the vast Atlantic to North America.

However, it remains unclear whether the Guinness World Records organisation has officially approved or acknowledged his application.

If successful, Bayigo’s swim would smash current world records held by seasoned athletes like Pablo Fernández of Spain, who swam 250 kilometres in Miami in 2021, currently the Guinness World Record for longest ocean swim.
