Nigerian singer Timaya on Wednesday asked Napoli to put some respect on fellow compatriot and striker Victor Osimhen, who was disrespected by the club’s TikTok handler.

Napoli admins on TikTok trolled the Super Eagles striker on Tuesday over his call for the penalty he missed in a 0-0 draw with Bologna in a Serie A match last weekend.

Osimhen missed a crucial spot kick at the Dall’Ara in the 72nd minute, which could have ended his run of three games without a goal as well as the club’s two league matches without a win.

The 24-year-old’s rude reaction to his substitution by coach Rudi Garcia in the 86th has generated serious media scrutiny in Italy, with the Nigerian international forced to apologise for his behaviour.

On the social media platform, the club posted a video showing Osimhen raising his hand in an appeal to the referee, after a Bolgna defender accidentally touched the ball in his 18-yard area.

A voice in the footage mocked Osimhen, saying repeatedly: “Give me penalty, please!”

The development elicited angry reactions from users around the world with many Nigerians saying that the Serie A champions do not deserve last season’s top scorer.

Timaya on Wednesday also took to X (formerly Twitter) to vent his anger towards Napoli for the action of their admin on TikTok.

“Napoli and the world should put some respect on Osimhen’s name. They have not had a player like that since Maradona,” the musician posted.

Meanwhile, the agent of Osimhen, Roberto Calends has threatened to take legal action against Napoli over the incident.
