The Rivers State Government is set to partner with DESGOL Entertainment Group worldwide with the aim of building the capacities of youths.

It was gathered that, in preparation for the second edition of the Rivers State International Film Festival, scheduled for October 24-27, 2024, the state government has pledged its support by ensuring that residents, especially those in Nollywood, have access to free medicals, capacity-building workshops, skill acquisition programs, and more.

This year’s festival has received 2,297 entries from 220 countries, according to a statement signed by the organisers.

Speaking during a recent courtesy visit by the group to the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, at Government House, Port Harcourt, the governor expressed happiness for the initiative.

He said, “We are happy that you are holding this for the second time here in Rivers State. The creative industry has a special place in our hearts because when you are done with a hectic day, the next thing you need is relaxation, and movies are one of the best ways to relax. It’s a youth-oriented program, and it will benefit Rivers people.”

“We are ready to welcome people from all over the world to come and experience the cultural heritage of Rivers State and see how hospitable we are.”

On her part, the Founder/Director of the Rivers International Film Festival, Kate Ezeigbo, said the festival will rewrite the false narrative told about the state.

She applauded the governor for his support and for being exceptional in his style of leadership.

She said, “Every October, as entertainers gather here, they will see for themselves that we are peace-loving, hardworking, and have intelligent youths ready to take on the world.”
