Nigerian singer and Grammy Award-winner Temilade Anna Openiyi, widely known as Tems, has said she would not initiate a move on Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye. During the 2026 BET Awards, the singer addressed the topic of the trending Nigerian soccer team goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye, and whether or not she would shoot her shot. Tems noted that shooting her shot is simply not part of her approach to relationships.

She said, “Do I know him personally? No, I think I do; I wish I did.

“I know who Maduka Okoye is, but I don’t know him personally. I wish I did though. But shooting shots at him, we don’t do that over here.

No, no, we don’t shoot shots here. We are friends, we befriend each other, and we are family, so no shots.”

Tems, who performed her song “What You Need” at the 2026 BET Awards, received three nominations this year, including Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, the BET Her Award, and the Viewers’ Choice Award. While she did not secure a win, her performance remained a key highlight of the event.

Beyond the awards, Tems has continued to make international waves. She recently delivered a performance of her track “Me & U” at the grand opening of the Obama Presidential Centre in Chicago. During the opening week, she also joined former First Lady Michelle Obama for a surprise visit to a songwriting workshop for the Obama Foundation’s Girls Opportunity Alliance Network. During this session, she discussed her creative journey and her Leading Vibe Initiative, which supports young women in the music industry.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Maduka Okoye remains a popular figure in Nigerian sports media, often trending online for both his professional work and his public image.
