The album promises an engaging and diverse musical journey, showcasing Young Thug’s artistic growth and boundary-pushing creativity.
Prior to the album release, Young Thug created excitement among his fans by cryptically teasing “Business Is Business” through a QR code. The code was posted shortly after his longtime collaborator Gunna released his own album, “A Gift & a Curse.”
The teaser quickly spread online with support from notable figures in the music industry, including Gunna, Metro Boomin, Drake, Chance the Rapper, Wheezy, G Herbo, Coi Leray, Lil Durk, 21 Savage, Southside, and more.
“Business Is Business” holds particular significance for Young Thug as it marks his first project following legal challenges. Young Thug, along with Gunna, Deamonte “Yak Gotti” Kendrick, and other members of the Young Stoner Life (YSL) collective, faced arrests on gang-related charges in Georgia.
The charges against Young Thug include participation in criminal street gang activity and conspiracy to violate Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act. Additionally, he faces felonies related to alleged drug and weapon possession. Young Thug has maintained his plea of not guilty to all charges.
While Gunna was released from jail after pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy to violate the Georgia RICO Act, Young Thug remains incarcerated and has been consistently denied bond.
A judge has expressed concerns about the rapper being a potential danger to the community. Some of Young Thug’s co-defendants have reached settlements in their cases, while he awaits trial.
The indictment initially named 28 YSL members and associates. Notable individuals who have pleaded guilty include Gunna, Unfoonk (Young Thug’s brother), Lil Duke, Slimelife Shawty, Trontavious “Tick” Stephens, Antonio “Mounk Tounk” Sledge, Walter Murphy, and Antonio “Obama” Sumlin. On the other hand, Derontae “Bee” Bebee and Tenquarius “Nard” Mender have rejected plea deals. Yak Gotti also remains incarcerated after being denied bond.
Jury selection for Young Thug’s trial began in January, and the presiding judge estimates that the process could extend until September. As of now, no jurors have been seated, and a firm trial date is yet to be determined.
Despite his time in jail, Young Thug has continued to make an impact on the music scene. His distinct vocals and captivating presence have been featured on various new songs, including Yeat’s “My Wrist,” Killer Mike’s “Run,” Calvin Harris’ “Potion,” and Rae Sremmurd’s “Royal Flush.” Furthermore, Young Thug’s collaboration with Gunna on “Pushin P” earned him two nominations at the 2023 Grammy Awards: Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance.
