Organic creams have become a trend in recent times, and it is not uncommon for many people to jump on it. However, a dermatologist, Dr Olufolakemi Cole-Adeife and a medical doctor/content creator, Dr Nonso Egemba, aka Aproko Doctor, have outlined key points to note before buying organic creams.
1. Know your skin type
Before you purchase any organic cream, dermatologists want you to choose products that are specifically formulated for your skin type. What works for dry skin may not work for oily skin.
2. Understand the ingredient list
When buying organic creams, check the content of the product and the effects on the body. Search for natural ingredients that are good for the skin, like shea butter and aloe vera. Avoid ingredients that can damage your skin in the long run.
3. Compare them with your allergies
Organic creams do not necessarily mean that they may not be allergic to your skin. Dermatologists advise that a patch test should be performed before you apply any new organic cream to your body or face. This will help you to understand which product you are buying.
4. Seek dermatologist’s expertise for persistent issues
If you are having persistent issues with your skin such as severe pigmentation and eczema, visit your dermatologist for professional help.
5. Look out for certifications
Before you buy any organic cream, ensure that your supplier is qualified to do so, and not just mere words. The certifications are evidence that the producer understands the production process.
6. Ensure it has NAFDAC number
There are certain procedures that must be followed to have a product certified for consumption. According to medical practitioner and content creator, Nonso Egemba, aka Aproko Doctor, not all organic creams should be used because some are dangerous to the skin. That is why one should consider products with NAFDAC’s registration number.
7. Check its expiry date
Before buying any organic cream, check its expiry date. Some people quickly use products without considering this. Kindly desist from such an act. Dermatologists understand that organic cream is beneficial, but it must come from a reputable brand with quality production, not just catchy packaging.
