No fewer than 114 inmates, who escaped from the Kabba Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kogi State have been rearrested.
No fewer than 114 inmates, who escaped from the Kabba Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kogi State have been rearrested.
Spokesman for the Nigerian Correctional Service, Francis Enobore, in a statement yesterday, said those rearrested were from the 240 escapees.
He said the inmates were rearrested following the attack on the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kabba in Kogi State and the swift intervention of the Controller General of custodial centres, Haliru Nababa,
“The CG, who personally led a team to the Custodial Centre for on-the-spot assessment, directed an immediate Search Party Response Team to go after the escapees even as security has been beefed up through the deployment of additional armed squad personnel to fortify the facility,” he added.
Recall that gunmen had stormed the facility late on Sunday, freeing scores of inmates.
A total of 294 inmates were at the facility when gunmen attacked the centre but 28 of them refused to escape.
Meanwhile, Nababa has commended the collaboration and support extended to the Service by sister security agencies, including
Vigilante groups for assisting in re-arresting fleeing inmates.
He advised the escapees to turn in themselves within 24 hours or risk prosecution if arrested.
He noted that it would be of no use for them to keep hiding since their photographs and biometrics have been captured and are intact.
While assuring the general public of their safety, the Controller-General stated that no efforts would be spared in smoking out the escapees.
