14 burnt to death, eight injured in Kano auto crash

No fewer than 14 persons died and eight others sustained injuries in a ghastly road accident on Thursday evening at Makole town along Kano Wudil highway, about 30 kilometres from Kano metropolis.
The accident involved a Toyota Hiace bus, with registration number DAL 116 XA conveying 22 passengers.
According to statement by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Kano Sector Commander, Zubairu Mato, the vehicle went up in flames immediately, while both the injured and charred bodies were evacuated to Wudil General Hospital, Wudil.
Mato said the vehicle was overloaded with passengers, reiterating the sector’s commitment to dealing decisively with earring motorists who are perpetual offenders.
He also cautioned passengers against boarding vehicles already overloaded to prevent needless crashes, especially this period of stay-at-home in Kano State, saying whoever is arrested violating the order would be sanctioned accordingly.
In a related development, six persons died, while five others sustained injuries in an auto crash in Sandamu Council of Katsina State.
The accident, which involved two vehicles, occurred around 9 pm on Thursday at Chadi village along the Daura-Kano road.
It was gathered that the deceased and the injured had been evacuated to the General Hospital in Daura.
The FRSC Sector Commander, Aliyu Tanimu, who confirmed the incident, said the accident occurred in a head on collision between a Volkswagen Golf car and Peugeot J5 vehicle.
