Fifteen-year-old girl, Blessing Ihejirika, daughter of Staff Sergeant, Innocent Ihejirika, who is currently on the frontlines to keep Yobe State safe from insurgents, is critically ill and needs N20 million to survive.

Blessing was diagnosed with leukemia at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba (LUTH). The disease, as indicated by a laboratory report, is a cancer of the body’s blood-forming tissues, including the bone marrow and lymphatic system.

For Blessing to be back on her feet, she needs to undergo a total bone marrow transplant at Artemis Hospital, Jacobpura, in India, with the bill for treatment estimated at N20 million.

Ihejirika’s condition was noticed last year August and since then, her parent has been footing the bill. Speaking with The Guardian, Emmanuel Ihejirika, a brother to Blessing’s father, said: “She has been taking chemotherapy at LUTH. Now the doctors said her body could no longer carry chemotherapy being administered on her and suggested that we take her to India for treatment, but due to lack of funds, she has not been able to go for treatment.

“LUTH has decided not to retain her in the hospital. So what they do is invite her over for a few days and do some check-ups and later discharge her to go home. That is the routine she has been subjected to lately,” he said.

Blessing’s father, posted since 18 April 2014 to Damaturu, Yobe State, to fight Boko Haram insurgency, in a phone conversation, said it had been difficult soliciting funds.

According to him, the only option left is to seek kind-hearted Nigerians for intervention in Blessing’s case by donating for her treatment as the family has exhausted every means possible to raise funds.

Donation can be sent to Goodseed Ihejirika, Blessing’s mother, via her account: GTBank 0615685653. She can also be reached via her phone number: 08060584460.
