Olafeso Says Zoning Will Not Allow PDP Oust APC
A former member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Lanre Odubote, who represented Epe Federal Constituency in Lagos State, yesterday, urged all presidential aspirants, especially from Southwest on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) to drop their ambitions and allow former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, emerge as the party’s candidate.

While speaking with The Guardian on the telephone, Odubote said the national leader of APC possesses what it takes to return Nigeria to its glorious days, irrespective of the dire situation the country is facing at present.

According to him, “Tinubu appears to be the only one running for the presidential race in the forthcoming 2023 presidential election, considering his last consultations, declaration and his acceptability across all sectors including traditional institutions.”

The former lawmaker appealed to other aspirants, particularly those from Yoruba land that Tinubu’s developmental stride and achievements as a former governor, positioned him as a man with necessary capacity to bail Nigeria and save the country from the present situation.

He said, “Tinubu did it in Lagos, when the military left the state in economic mess, he was smart enough to assemble team of technocrats, irrespective of their ethnic backgrounds across the country and in no time Lagos economy was transformed and its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) moves from millions to billions.”

While Odubote agreed that every other Nigerians have the right to aspire to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari, he said what is needed now is far beyond personal aspiration.

“Nigeria needs emergency surgical operation to survive and Tinubu appears to be the perfect candidate because of his track records, having produced many people, starting from councillors, house of assembly members, senators, House of Representatives members and governors among others. He is the most consistent politicians in the country since 1999.”

Meanwhile, the immediate past National Vice Chairman, Southwest zone of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Eddy Olafeso has appealed to the party members to disabuse their mind over zoning and face the reality of how the party can win the next election.

Olafeso, while speaking to The Guardian, said, “Aside the fact that PDP cannot at this time shut critical regions out of the coming presidential election based on zoning, the party must consider the best strategy to adopt to win, otherwise the aspiration to save Nigeria from going under by ousting ruling APC would be defeated.”

He said zoning has not really helped Nigeria to grow and for that reason, “what’s the basis of emphasising it.”
