National leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, may have begun move to seek the support of Northern religious leaders ahead 2023 agenda, if his meeting with the congregation of Ulamas and Imams in Kano was anything to go by.

The former Lagos State governor was in the ancient city on Friday to attend the wedding ceremony of Naisa Mohammad Bin-Uthman, daughter of the famous Islamic scholar and Imam, Sheikh Mohammad Bin-Uthman, held at Alfruqan Central mosque, Nassarawa GRA, Kano.

Also in attendance were former Governor of Osun State and APC Chieftain, Chief Bisi Akande and former EFCC Chairman, Nuhu Ribadu, among other party loyalists.

Tinubu, in company of Governor Abdullah Umar Ganduje, shortly after the grand reception, visited Alfruqan Mosque, where he met with Imams.

Tinubu moved to the private residence of Sheikh Ali Yunus at CBN quarters in Sharada Area and later proceeded to the residence of the leader of Ahlu Sunnah Waljama, Sheikh Abdulwahb Abdallah, where leaders of various Islamic sects assembled and received him.

In what literally turned a political gathering, the congregation of Ulamas pledged to support Tinubu’s ambition in 2023.

Leader of Ahlu Sunnah, Sheikh Abdulwahb Abdulla described Tinubu as a true Nigerian, whose generosity cuts across the country. Abdulwahb reassured Tinubu of Muslims and Islamic scholars’ readiness to support his political ambition.

“The Northern Muslims are ready to give you the support because when the fight was tough, you accepted our own son, Muhammadu Buhari, who had tried in vain severally, until he became president in 2015. We pray that Allah take you to that height and position you so desire,” he said.

Similarly, leader of Tijaniyya sect in Kano, Sheikh Ibrahim Shehu Mai Hula, who reemphasised the loyalty and support the North enjoyed from the southwestern part of the country through Tinubu’s influence, declared that religious leaders were prepared to reciprocate similar gesture in 2023.

Representative of Khadiriya sect, Sheik Abdulgafar Khdiriya, prayed that Allah’s Will be fulfilled on the APC leader’s desire.

Responding, Tinubu said Nigerian leaders hold the duty to ensure stability and progress of the nation. He promised to promote unity, peace and tranquility in the country.
