2026: Oyebanji has no business returning as gov, says Oluyede

Biodun Oyebanji, Ekiti State governor

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Ekiti State gubernatorial election, Dr Wole Oluyede, has said that Governor Biodun Oyebanji has no business returning as the governor of the state for a second term due to poor performance in his first term.

Oluyede said that the state had not improved since the incumbent governor assumed office, saying there is no need for him to repeat in “a class he has failed.”

He spoke yesterday during a homecoming event organised by the PDP to receive him at his country home in Ikere-Ekiti.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Ekiti State PDP, Tunji Odeyemi, declared that Oluyede is the party’s candidate and the next governor of the state.

But reacting to the allegation of non-performance levelled against Oyebanji by the candidate of the PDP, the All Progressives Congress (APC) described Oluyede as lacking proper knowledge of the state because he is a stranger.

Publicity Secretary of APC in the state, Segun Dipe, who spoke with The Guardian, said that the PDP’s candidate could not be taken seriously because he doesn’t understand Ekiti State’s terrain.
MEANWHILE, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced a two-day training for registration officials across the 30 local councils of Osun State, as part of preparations for the devolvement of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise to the Registration Area (RA) level.

The training began yesterday, April 1, 2026.

However, as preparations intensify for the 2026 Osun State governorship election, a review of candidates’ digital campaign infrastructure shows that most do not maintain dedicated campaign websites where voters can access detailed information about their agendas.
