Tragedy struck the Sokoto State Police Command after an Inspector of Police, Adamu Isah, collapsed and died shortly after participating in the Command’s weekly physical exercise.
Inspector Isah, who was attached to the Department of Operations, reportedly collapsed after returning from the Walkathon exercise held at the Command Headquarters on Wednesday.
The exercise, conducted every Wednesday as part of the Nigeria Police Force’s efforts to promote physical fitness, discipline and operational readiness among personnel, had ended when the officer suddenly became unconscious.
He was immediately rushed to a hospital for medical attention, but attending doctors later confirmed his death.
In a condolence message signed his the Police spokesman in the state, DSP Ahmad Rufai, said the State Commissioner of Police, Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, has expressed his deep sorrow over the sudden loss.
The police boss described the deceased as a dedicated and gallant officer who served the country with commitment, professionalism and discipline.
According to him, Isah was not only committed to his police duties but was also actively involved in sporting activities within the Command.
He said the late Inspector was a member of the Command’s volleyball team and also participated in boxing, describing him as an energetic and disciplined sportsman whose team spirit would be greatly missed.
“The Sokoto State Police Command is deeply saddened by the sudden and painful loss of our colleague, Inspector Adamu Isah. He was a dedicated and gallant officer who served his fatherland with unwavering commitment and professionalism,” the Commissioner said.
The CP extended his condolences to the deceased officer’s family, friends and colleagues, assuring the bereaved family of the Command’s support during the difficult period.
He also urged officers and men of the Command to remain steadfast and draw strength from the fact that their colleague dedicated his life to serving the nation.
The Commissioner however prayed for the peaceful repose of Inspector Isah’s soul and for God to grant his family the strength and fortitude to bear the loss.
