A political support group, Voice of Kano North, has declared support for Deputy President of the Senate Barau I Jibrin for the senatorial district ticket in 2027.
Besides, the group insisted the region cannot afford to lose” the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau I. Jibrin, ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that his continued representation is key to sustaining ongoing development in the area.
The group made the declaration on Tuesday during a press conference, where it threw its weight behind Barau’s “continuity bid”, describing him as the most impactful representative the zone has produced since the return of democracy in 1999.
Addressing journalists, Habib Jibrin Yan Cibi said, Barau has delivered visible development across Kano North, particularly in education, infrastructure, and human capital development, which it said has transformed the socio-economic landscape of the district.
It argued that his leadership has led to the expansion of educational opportunities through the establishment of higher institutions and learning centres across the 13 local government areas of the zone, including Open University study centres and extensions of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma.
The group also listed other federal institutions it said were facilitated by the senator, including the Federal University of Science and Technology, Kabo, a Police College, an Immigration training institute in Bichi, and a Civil Defence institute in Gwarzo.
On infrastructure, it said the ongoing Kano–Gwarzo–Dayi road project, valued at over N30 billion, remains one of the most significant interventions in the zone, boosting transportation and economic activities.
It further claimed that Barau’s impact is particularly visible in Gwarzo Local Government Area, where it said multiple projects have been executed across sectors including healthcare, water supply, rural electrification, and community development.
The group also highlighted interventions in agriculture and social welfare, including distribution of fertilisers, livestock support, cash and food assistance, as well as empowerment programmes for youths and women.
Raising the political tone, the group criticised former Deputy Governor and ex-Minister, Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo, who is reportedly being considered as a potential contender, alleging that his years in public office did not translate into comparable development for the area.
