Ahead of the 2027 general elections, All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Benue State, Dr. Jeffrey Kuraun, has unveiled an economic recovery and infrastructure development blueprint, warning that poor resource management and wastage have slowed development in the state.
Speaking at the presentation of his manifesto in Abuja on Thursday, titled “Vision Direction,” Kuraun said his administration would prioritise fiscal discipline, efficient spending, and accountability in governance to ensure that public resources are channeled into productive sectors.
He said his plan was designed to reverse what he described as inefficiencies in resource utilisation, stressing that every kobo spent must translate into measurable development outcomes.
“Our challenge has not only been limited resources, but how effectively those resources are managed. We will ensure that wastage is eliminated and public funds are directed to projects that deliver real value to the people,” he said.
Kuraun noted that his economic recovery strategy would focus on strengthening local industries, expanding agricultural value chains, and creating jobs through enterprise development and skills acquisition programmes for youths.
He emphasised that infrastructure development would be pursued with strict cost efficiency, insisting that road projects, rural connectivity, and public utilities must be executed without inflation of contracts or abandonment of projects.
“We will not tolerate duplication of projects or wasteful spending. Infrastructure must be delivered at value, on time, and with clear impact on economic growth,” he added.
The aspirant also proposed tighter financial controls and transparent budgeting processes to curb leakages in public expenditure. According to him, borrowing would only be considered where it is tied to productive investments capable of generating returns for the state.
Kuraun further pledged to support small and medium-scale enterprises, saying they would be prioritised as key drivers of job creation and economic expansion, while ensuring that government interventions are not lost to inefficiency or mismanagement.
He also outlined plans to promote innovation, technology, and entrepreneurship as part of efforts to improve productivity and reduce dependence on government spending.
“Our goal is a disciplined economy where resources are properly managed, investments are strategic, and development is sustainable,” he said.
The governorship hopeful maintained that his agenda is focused on improving living standards, restoring public confidence in governance, and ensuring that Benue State achieves long-term economic stability through prudent resource management.
