A non-governmental organisation (NGO), Inmates Educational Foundation, in partnership with Creative Digital Technologies, Nigeria Youth Future Funds, and Leap Africa, has trained 30 juveniles on digital literacy skills at the Oregun Correctional Centre, Ikeja, Lagos.

Speaking after the six-week intensive training, the Executive Director of Inmates Educational Foundation, Mahfuz Alabidun, said the training covered essential topics such as understanding Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), Basic Computer Operations, Internet Navigation, Word Processing, Spreadsheet Skills, Presentation Software, and Final Project Presentations.

He said the programme also included exciting games like chess, puzzles, Rubik skills, and dart skills to enhance cognitive development and teamwork. He disclosed that the programme, which was the first of its kind, is meant to equip juveniles with vital digital literacy skills to prepare them for a smoother reintegration into society upon release.

“We are proud to have made a positive impact in the lives of these young inmates. We aim to empower them with the skills and confidence needed to succeed in today’s technology-driven world.

“The programme is meant to highlight the importance of collaboration and support from organisations and individuals committed to making a difference in the lives of juveniles in correctional centres,” he said.

Mahfuz also encouraged brands and companies to support activities that foster young offenders’ personal growth, education, and career success in correctional centres.
