The Save the Children has stated that about 5.9 million children still die of preventable causes, like pneumonia, yearly.

Save the Children Youth Ambassador, Maryam Ahmed said this, yesterday, in Abuja at an event to commemorate the UN Convention on the Right of the Child in Nigeria.

According to Ahmed, more than 420 million children in the world are living in conflict zones. The Ambassador further disclosed that over 317 million children are not learning to read or write, despite being in school. She said four girls under-15 get married every minute.

She stated that over 700 million children live under regimes that systematically deny citizens basic civil and political rights.Ahmed called on the Federal Government to take specific actions to ensure progress is made towards realising the rights of every child, with a focus on the most marginalised and deprived.
