50th anniversary: UBTH organises fitness walk to promote healthy living
Activities, lined up to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the University Of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), yesterday, commenced with a fitness walk aimed at encouraging staff and members of the society to get involved in physical activities to promote healthy living.
Speaking with journalists during the event tagged; ‘Walk For Life,’ the Chief Medical Director of UBTH, Prof. Darlington Obaseki, said the event, put together by the hospital, was to harness the gains of physical activities and promote healthy living.
The walk started from the hospital premises and terminated at Uselu Market, where traders and other persons were sensitised on healthy living and gains of physical activities by the Head of Physiotherapy Department, Dr. Taiwo Oyewunmi.
Participants in the exercise include: students, members of the public and health enthusiasts.
Some health workers, who participated in the exercise, told The Guardian that the over 40 minutes walk is aimed at improving quality of life, reducing factors that cause disease such as diabetes and hypertension, as well as discouraging sedentary lifestyle.
