No fewer than 82,213 lawyers have been confirmed eligible to participate in the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) national elections scheduled for July 18, 2026.

The Electoral Committee of the NBA (ECNBA), said the verified voters are drawn from 139 branches across the country, following the publication of the final voters register in line with the revised timetable issued on July 3, 2026.

The release was jointly signed by the Election Chairman (ECNBA 2026), Aham Ejelam (SAN) and the Secretary, Ibrahim Aliyu Nassarawa, the committee stated that the register, published on July 10, 2026, is now conclusive, noting that no further additions, deletions or amendments will be entertained under any circumstances.

However, the ECNBA disclosed that 671 names were listed separately under the category of legal practitioners who paid their practising fees before the deadline but were not affiliated with any NBA branch.

The electoral body clarified that inclusion in this category does not automatically confer eligibility to vote, stressing that branch membership remains a constitutional requirement under the NBA Constitution 2015 (as amended in 2025).

They urged affected individuals to regularise their branch affiliation and provide proof of membership to the committee before the election date, adding that they should contact the ECNBA Secretariat without delay.

As part of preparations for the poll, the committee scheduled a nationwide mock voting exercise and platform testing for July 11, 2026, to allow verified voters to familiarise themselves with the e-voting system.

This will be followed by a review of the mock exercise, final systems audit and briefing of candidates and their agents on July 13, 2026.

Campaign activities are expected to end by 5:00 p.m. on July 17, 2026, after which the e-voting platform will be locked down ahead of the election.

Voting is scheduled to commence at 12:00 a.m. and close at 11:59 p.m. on July 18, 2026, with results to be announced the following day.

The ECNBA therefore reaffirmed its commitment to delivering a credible, transparent and fair election, urging all eligible members to participate in the process.
