The Anambra State Commissioner for Public Utilities, Emeka Ezenwanne, abducted during the attack on former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Chief Chukwuma Soludo, last week, at Isuofia Civic Centre in Aguata Local Council of the state, has been released.

A source close to the commissioner said the commissioner was released unhurt by 1:00 a.m. yesterday morning but did not give details on the location of his release.

He also said that no ransom was paid to the abductors before Ezenwanne regained his freedom.

Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra State Police Command, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, who confirmed the release of Ezenwanne, yesterday, in a statement in Awka, said he was in good health.

The statement read in part: “The police, military and other security agencies had mounted intense search and rescue efforts, which had closed in on his abductors, thereby forcing his release.

“The commissioner returned home unhurt in the early hours of today (yesterday).

“The Police Command had arrested five suspects in connection with the incident and remained committed in apprehending the remaining gang members.”
