Abducted DELSU lecturer dies few hours after release

A lecturer at Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, Professor Ovaborhene Idamoyibo, who was released on Sunday by his abductors has died a few hours after.

The Guardian learnt that the deceased was kidnapped on April 9, in the Eku area of Ethiope East Local Council of Delta State, but released on Sunday night after his family members paid N3 million of the N50 million ransom demanded.
It was gathered that after the ransom was paid, the kidnappers dropped him at a bridge in Abraka and was picked up by some family members, who immediately rushed him to Dunflox Hospital in Abraka, for treatment.
It was learnt that Prof Idamoyibo, who was the Head of the Music department of the institution was not responding to treatment at Dunflox hospital, and was immediately rushed to Oghara Teaching Hospital on Monday where he was confirmed dead.
Sources said he died before arriving at Oghara Teaching Hospital as medical personnel on duty confirmed him dead as soon as he was brought in.
When contacted, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police, (DSP), Bright Edafe, confirmed that he died at the hospital.
