‘Abia executive, legislature working in harmony’
Deputy Governor of Abia State, Dr. Ude Oko Chukwu, has described Abia as a model state in terms of the relationship between democratic institutions in the state.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Obasi Okibe Onwuka, to mark this year’s Democracy Day, the deputy governor stated that the state has a stable legislature, which works in harmony with the executive while effectively carrying out its constitutional duty of oversight.
He added that the state judiciary has also enjoyed stability with seamless successions and a track record of landmark judgments.
According to him, ‘looking back over the years, we have a lot to be thankful for seeing how far we have come.”
On the state of the health of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, who was recently confirmed positive for COVID-19 and has been receiving medical attention, Chukwu said the governor was in stable condition.
“I am in constant touch with our governor and he is in good spirits. He is only observing the mandatory isolation period prescribed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) for those who test positive to Coronavirus. At the end of the mandatory isolation period, our dear governor will return to full duty to continue to steer the affairs of Abia State,” he said.
