The Federal Government has promised to build more infrastructure to enhance the livelihoods of the people of Yobe State in the North East region. The Minister of State for Works and Housing, Abubakar Aliyu, stated this at a reception organised by state government for him and the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, in Damaturu, Yobe State.

According to the former deputy governor of Yobe, the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has achieved a lot in terms of roads in various parts of the country, adding that Yobe and the North East has tremendously benefited from many of such projects. The minister cited some of the ongoing and completed projects in Yobe and the North East, including the Azare/Damburu road and Nguru/Gashua/Maimari road.

The establishment of the North East Development Commission (NEDC) by the Federal Government will take care of the reconstruction, rehabilitation and rebuilding of the devastated North East region, he added.Activities of terror groups like Boko Haram and the Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) has left the North East in ruins, prompting the inauguration of NEDC.

Earlier, Yobe State Governor Mai Malah Buni had explained that the government and people of Yobe decided to honour their illustrious sons because of their achievements in the state as well as at the national level.

On his part, the immediate past governor of Yobe, Senator Ibrahim Geidam (Yobe East District I), described the minister as a selfless and highly supportive person who contributed to the development of state when he served as deputy governor.
