The Adamawa State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting schools from attacks and ensuring every child has access to safe, quality education.
Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, made the declaration during an advocacy road walk organised by the Education in Emergencies Working Group to mark the International Day for the Protection of Education from Attack.
Addressing participants, Professor Farauta emphasised that the government would not tolerate any form of disruption to education in the state. She stated that the administration is determined to ensure no child is left behind, regardless of the challenges facing the sector.
“The protection of education is a shared responsibility, and we are working closely with stakeholders to revamp the education system. This includes the construction of new schools and the renovation of existing ones to create a more conducive learning environment,” Farauta said.
She also assured the gathering that all concerns and demands raised during the event would be given proper attention by the government.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Umar Garba Pella, lamented the destruction of schools by insurgents and called on parents to support the educational rights of their children.
“Attacks on schools are attacks on the future of our children,” he said. “This advocacy is a call to action to end all forms of violence and obstruction that deny children their right to education.”
Dr. Pella described the day as a symbolic victory over those who attempt to undermine the value of education through violence and fear.
Representing the students of EYN Primary School, Jimeta, a pupil called on the government to increase funding for education by repairing damaged schools and supporting both teachers and students.
He also urged the state to adopt and implement the National Policy on Safe Schools to ensure learning continues without fear.
“When schools are safe, children can dream again,” Joel said. “We can learn, we can play, and we can build a future that is brighter for Adamawa and for Nigeria.”
