The Authentic National Leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), on Saturday, blamed the party’s poor performance in the recently concluded 2026 Abuja Area Council elections on alleged violations of due process by some coalition partners.
The party also alleged that internal rivalry and undemocratic conduct among dissenting elements had diminished the credibility of their appeals at both national and international levels.
The National Chairman of the Authentic ADC, Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe, disclosed this in Abuja, during a press briefing, expressed disappointment that certain elements within the coalition operated outside the party’s constitutional framework, a situation he said contributed to the party’s defeat at the polls.
Gombe also used the opportunity to formally disassociate the legitimate leadership of the ADC from an international press conference recently conducted by what he described as “so-called opposition elements” posing as party stakeholders.
He said: “The Authentic National Leadership of the African Democratic Congress distances itself entirely from the international press conference held by these factions. They do not speak for our party.
“The National Assembly is empowered by the constitution to establish the Electoral Act. Accusing them of performing their duty is misguided. Rather than attacking the legislature, our coalition partners should focus on normalizing and formalizing their relationship with our great party.
He criticized the parallel group for accusing the National Assembly of overstepping its bounds regarding the constitutional framework for the 2027 electoral act, arguing that the legislature is merely performing its constitutional duties.
The National Chairman further asserted that the international community has ignored the appeals of these dissenting voices due to their undemocratic behavior and internal power struggles.
In a final appeal to party faithful, Hon. Gombe called on genuine members and other coalition partners who are not self-centered to return to the various ADC ward offices across the country to register and join the party in order to strengthen the party structure.
He added, “Your power mongering and refusal to reconcile aspirations for the betterment of the country are the main reasons the international community ignores your appeals. Politics should be about service, not self-aggrandizement.
“We urge you to come back home. Help us rebuild and salvage this nation from the grassroots. The Authentic ADC remains the vehicle for true change in Nigeria.”
