The General Overseer, The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Worldwide, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has urged the Federal Government to stop paying lip service to the education sector but rise up to give it robust funding.

The cleric also implored the government to equip higher institutions with every necessary aid to carry out researches and perform like other institutions in developed nations.

Adeboye, who spoke yesterday on the topic: “Rising Stars” at the RCCG Headquarters, The Throne of Grace, Ebute-Metta, during the end of the month thanksgiving service where he also prayed especially for all professors, lecturers, teachers, youth corps members, students, and their families, said that the government should show more sense of commitment and pay more attention to uplifting our universities.

The Assistant General Overseer, Admin & Personnel, Pastor Johnson Odesola, who also spoke at the thanksgiving service, said Nigeria was expected to be a rising star but is bedeviled by a lot of problems ranging from insincerity, nonchalant attitude towards accountability and corruption that have all continued to dwarf the status of the nation as a star in Africa and among comity of nations.

He described ‘star’ like a burning gas that needs a substance inside to become a rising star, adding that leaders in the country would continue to be ordinary burning gas until they allow God to empower them from inside without whom they can do nothing.

“They have been spending money on education and electricity, among others, with nothing to show because the vacuum of the true and righteous God in them is not filled.

“God is the solution to our problems and as long as leaders refuse to recognise this salient truth and give Him position in their hearts, they would continue to chase shadows,” he said.

He, therefore, urged Nigerians to pray for the country and its leaders while they advocate for accountability that would bring erring leaders to justice, adding that they should discourage honouring corrupt leaders by giving them chieftaincy titles, among others.

He also urged the youths in the country to rise up and pursue the spirit of rising stars, urging them to go for the best in every area and discourage the attitude of getting rich quickly.
