Adewale Martins to visit St Lawrence July 1

The Catholic Archbishop of Lagos Metropolitan See, His Grace, Most Rev. Dr. Alfred Adewale Martins (DD), will visit St Lawrence Catholic Church, Paiko, Idimu, July 1, 2018.

During his visit, His Grace will dedicate the parish’s Chapel of Adoration and also administer the sacrament of confirmation to about 400 candidates.

The sacrament of enables the faithful to be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit, strengthening them in their Christian life. Normally, only the bishop confirms the Catholics in his diocese.

The priest-in charge of the parish, Rev. Father Cosmas Mordi, said, “the visit would bring encouragement and hope to those involved in pastoral work and to all the people of the parish.”

Moses Agbonhese, the vice chairman of the parish’s pastoral council, said, “the visit is an apostolic endeavour, an event of grace.”

He added, “the visit would allow the bishop come into personal contact with the priest and lay people responsible for various areas of the pastoral life of the parish.

Agbonhese said, “above all, His Grace will become acquainted with the reality of the environment, the socio-economic condition of the people, the current pastoral programmes, and the overall functioning of the parish.”

He said, “expectations are high, because we are hoping that His Grace will consider us and eventually pronounce St Lawrence a full parish.”

According to Mr. Sunday Odey, chairman special project committee of the parish, “the archbishop has supported us so much and we want to use this visit to show him that we are unmindful of his assistance to us.”
